MT ROSE

Ski & Snowboard Resort Review

Mt Rose, NEVADA , USA is the closest ski and snowboard resort to Reno, a less than 30 minutes drive, making it a great destination for a day trip.

Mt Rose Nevada

From the Mt Rose Main Lodge at 8,260 feet the Northwest Magnum Chairlift transports skiers and snowboarders to the summit at 9,700 feet in just 3 ½ minutes, from here you have breath taking views across Nevada and the Lake Tahoe region.

Mt Rose has 60 trails ranging from rolling gentle terrain to long groomed runs to fast steep mogul covered chutes.

Advanced Skiing and Snowboarding

Advanced skiers and snowboarders have plenty of steep mogul runs and off piste descents branching out in all directions from the top of the Blazing Zephyr and Northwest Magnum Chairlifts.

The 16 double black diamond Chutes, opened in the 2004 season, are steep, deep and heavily treed; Saddle, El Cap and Jackpot are considered the steepest and most challenging.

For moguls head to Northwest and Waterfall runs to the right of the Northwest Magnum Chairlift.

Intermediate Skiing and Snowboarding

Mt Rose is a great intermediate mountain with long groomed linked trails covering the resort. The long Bruce’s and Big Bonanza trails in the Slide Bowl are groomed nightly and are really fast first thing in the morning.

The Kit Carson Bowl to the right of the Lake view Chairlift has both intermediate and easier advanced steep trails that are groomed regularly.

Beginner Skiing and Snowboarding

The Ponderosa and Galena Chairlifts, to the right of the Mt Rose Main Lodge, service seven beginner wide, gentle, open trails.

The Mt Rose Ski and Snowboard School has beginner packages which include lift ticket, equipment hire and a two hour group lesson.

Mt Rose Terrain Park and Halfpipe

Mt Rose has two terrain parks and a halfpipe all located in the Slide Bowl. Badlands Terrain Park is an intermediate park with low jumps, rollers and hits while Doubledown Terrain Park has some seriously big kickers, tables and jumps for the more advanced free stylers.

Mt Rose Main Lodge

There is no on mountain accommodation at Mt Rose just the Mt Rose Main Lodge. The lodge has a service and rental ski and snowboard shop on the lower level as well as a small shop selling goggles, gloves and hats as well as souvenirs. Open from 8am to 6pm every day it has a Tavern, pizza and burrito bar, coffee shop and a large outdoor sundeck with views up the mountain.

The smaller Slide Lodge, located above the car park at the base of the Blazing Zepher Chairlift in the Slide Bowl, sells ski passes and has a cafeteria, small sundeck and toilet facilities.

Caroline pitt, NV. March 2006 We found ourselves with a day to kill in Reno so decided to test out Mt Rose. A bus came to our casino door to pick us up, wasn't too early, about 8.30 I think and we would have been riding easily by 10. It's pretty small but has some radical stuff to offer. The trails underneath the Northwest Magnum 6 chair lift were really steep and fast. It was a little icy but had been groomed well so you could really get an edge on big G S turns. The park was a bit of fun too, we were the only ones in it all afternoon. I went not expecting to much but what I had was a great final day on the board. It was pretty cheap too, with transport, pass and lunch only about $65.

Daniel Ivanov, TX. Jan 2006 Mt Rose is the ideal warm up mountain at the start of your vacation. The chutes are some of the best around and the lower wind protected beginner areas are great to introduce young children to snow for the first time, my young kids can't get enough of the Wild Horse Adventure Trail.
