Lech and Zurs Skiing and Snowboarding Terrain

The skiing and snowboarding terrain at Lech and Zurs is excellent; there are open powder fields, endless off piste opportunities, steep mogul fields and seemingly never ending wide linked groomed trails and gentle beginner areas. The lift system is fast and efficient transporting crowds up and out of both villages very quickly.

Lech and Zurs are lift linked to the neighbouring resorts of St Anton and St Christoph. The four linked resorts are referred to as ‘the Arlberg ski area’ and are all accessible on the one hands free ARLBERG CARD ski pass. The pass is placed in your upper jacket pocket to automatically enable lift access without staff manually checking passes ensuring less crowd congestion.  For more information on St Anton click here

In the winter of 2006/2007 the new Valfagehrbahn Stuben Chairlift, a six seater chairlift was installed to improve the connection between Stuben/Alpe Rauz, St Anton and St Christoph.

Advanced Skiing and Snowboarding

Advanced skiers and snowboarders have a lot of off piste challenging open powder terrain at Lech and Zurs; there is so much off piste terrain that even after a few days of good snowfalls fresh tracks can still be made. There are not a lot of out of bounds areas; if you can access the terrain you are generally allowed to ski or snowboard it.

From the top of the Zugerburg Chairlift, leading upwards from the Zug area, head to the far right for to access the Zuppert extreme ski route, it is never groomed and littered with tight cutes, sudden drops and, of course, deep powder snow!

The two Sudhang extreme ski routes on the left hand side of the Kriegerhornbahn Chairlift are steep and usually covered in enormous moguls.

From the Zurs village the Trittkopfbahn Cable Car rises up to the top of the Trittkopf Peak at 2,423 meters. From here turn right to access the Balmen trail, follow the trail about one third of the way down before heading left into the surrounding open powder fields.

Great powder can also be found between the Hexenboden Chairlift and the Trittkopfbahn Cable Car.  In the winter of 2006/2007 the new Hexenboden Chairlift was opened.  The new six seater chairlift with protective bubbles replaced the old Hexenboden I and Hexenboden II lifts ensuring skiers and snowboarders a much faster turn around time.

Intermediate Skiing and Snowboarding

Intermediates love skiing and snowboarding at Lech and Zurs with 50% of the terrain allocated to them. Long seemingly endless immaculately groomed trails cover the linked resorts.

A must do is the famous 22 kilometre long ‘White Ring’ circuit. The circuit runs in a clockwise direction starting from the Lech village eventually linking with the Zurs village before covering most of the ski and snowboard area and ending back in Lech. It is a beautiful circuit that only accesses seven lifts and is a great introduction to the Lech and Zurs terrain.

The Steinmahderbahn Chairlift, on the upper slopes of Lech services some great fast groomed quite steep trails, after a good snowfall they are fantastic.

In the mornings head to Zurs for some warm up runs on the long Muggengrat-Tali trail that winds around the edge of the resort.

Beginner Skiing and Snowboarding

Beginner skiers and snowboarders have a lot of options at Lech and Zurs with wide gentle slopes rising above both villages.

In Lech the Schlegelkopf II Chairlift gives access to gentle and easy terrain. The Kriegerhornbahn Chairlift, located above the Schlegelkopf II Chairlift, transports beginners even higher, once at the top turn right for a long, winding and fun run back down to the Lech village.

Confident beginners can catch the Rufikopfbahn Cable Car up to the top of the Rufikopf area before turning right onto the well groomed Monzabon-See trail which accesses the Schuttboden-Zurs trail leading down into the Zurs village.

In Zurs there are even more beginner runs; take the Zursersee and Muggengrat Chairlifts for a very long scenic trail back down into the Zurs village.

Lech and Zurs have four ski and snowboard schools all offering group, private and day long lessons for all ages and ability levels with professional bilingual instructors.  The ski and snowboard school in Lech also offers snowshoeing, hiking and ice fall climbing lessons.  Mountain guides, freestyle and off piste powder lessons are also available.

Lech Terrain Park

A slalom race track runs parallel to the Funpark and a children’s beginner terrain park is just below it.
