Alyeska, ALASKA, USA offers fantastic skiing and snowboarding opportunities in one of the most scenic resorts in the World. Receiving over 600 inches of snow each season Alyeska remains surprisingly uncrowded throughout the winter season.
The terrain at Alyeska consists of long liked trails, open powder bowls, steep faces and expert only chutes.
Most of the advanced terrain is above the tree level on fast steep challenging ungroomed areas. Once up the Alyeska Tramway catch Chair 6 up and turn left down either Christmas or New Years Chutes, they are short and steep. This will get you onto the North Face double black diamond terrain, from here pick your route down, just be on the lookout for hidden cliff drops and lips!
After fresh snowfalls the upper areas of Glacier Bowl and Headwall, only accessible by hiking from Chair 6, are as close to inbounds heli skiing and snowboarding you’ll get.
Intermediates have the best of both worlds at Alyeska, with groomed long winding trails, gentle powder bowls and some treed lined terrain. All the intermediate trails are groomed on a nightly basis.
For a long descent from the top of the Alyeska Tramway turn right and head down Main Street to The Weir before cutting into Runway to Van Imhof Drive then down the Lower Race Trail to Chair 4.
The beginner trails at the mountain base are all serviced by Chair 3 and Chair 7. The trails are wide and flat, perfect for learning on. As confidence grows head to the neighbouring Tanaka Hill trail.
The Alyeska Mountain Learning Center have ‘learn 2 ski & ride’ packages available with 2 hour long group lessons and experienced instructors.
27 trails are illuminated for night skiing and snowboarding every Friday and Saturday nights from 4.30pm to 9.30pm.Friday and Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
For a day off the slopes try some of the many activities available in and around Alyeska Resort, take a Flight Seeing tour in either a helicopter or small plane, go heli skiing and snowboarding, take an ocean cruise from Anchorage, go dog sledding, ice climbing, mountaineering, cross country skiing or snow shoeing.
The Glacier Tubing Park at Alyeska has 2 lanes and a surface lift and provides hours of fun for the family.
Chugach Powder Guides have heli skiing and snowboarding tours through the Chugach Mountain Ranges exploring the giant mountain faces, glaciers, treed areas and gentle bowls. The experienced guides guarantee 16,000 vertical feet will be covered in a day!
Chugach Powder Guides also have day long snowcat skiing and snowboarding tours.
The restaurants at Hotel Alyeska source only the best seasonal ingredients and fresh seafood. Teppanyaki Katsura Restaurant takes advantage of the fresh seafood with four course meals consisting of Alaskan king crab and Alaskan Salmon with lobster, beef fillet and New York steaks. The Pond Café is a family favourite open for breakfast lunch and dinner specializing in seafood. The Auroa Bar and Lounge has a sports themed bar as well as a piano bar with views across the resort and stays open late.
Outside the hotel the Sitzmark Bar and Grill located slope side has monster burgers and tasty sandwiches great for a hearty lunch.
At the top of the Alyeska Tramway at 2,300 feet are 2 restaurants the Glacier Express and Seven Glaciers. Glacier Express is a cafeteria style restaurant open only during the day while Seven Glaciers, open for dinner is a fine dining experience with menu options of scallop bisque, crab cakes and Mesquite veal. Wines from across the country are served to complement the local cuisine.
There are ski and snowboard equipment and hire shops at Alyeska as well as gift and souvenir stores. The Alyeska Hotel has a clothing shop, art shop and a liquor store.
