Chamonix is not a purpose resort built town but a beautiful 'real' French town full of atmosphere with narrow cobbled streets lined with old buildings, boutique shops, restaurants and bars. Accommodation is available in luxury hotels, family run hotels, chalets, apartments and B & Bs for all levels of budget.
The luxury four star Grand Hotel Des Alpes is located centrally within the town. The hotel has 30 tastefully decorated rooms and suites, a communal lounge with an open fireplace, a library, a bar and daily full cooked buffet breakfast. The relaxation centre has an indoor swimming pool, sauna, spa and an in-house massage therapist.
The three star Mercure Chamonix Centre Hotel is located centrally next to the train station, the hotel has 125 comfortable rooms and an in-house bar and restaurant serving breakfast and dinner daily.
The Hotel Vallee Blanche also has a three star rating, located centrally on the river it has 26 double and triple rooms all with full bathrooms and internet access. The hotel has cooked breakfast and an in-house pub "O’Byrnes" open until 2am every night.
The small two star Hotel Le Chamonix located centrally just steps away from the tourist office has clean and cosy rooms, good personalised service and mountain views.
The Le Vagabond Hostel has clean and pleasant dorm rooms sleeping from four to six guests with shared bathroom facilities as well as double rooms with private ensuites. The hostel has a ski storage and drying room, laundry facilities, a large common room and a fully equipped communal kitchen. Breakfast and dinner can be provided at an extra charge.
Chamonix also has hundreds of apartments and chalets available to rent through agents and private owners. Most of the apartments, such as Residence Maeva La Riviereare, are centrally located, sleeping from two to six guests with basic kitchens, bathrooms and balconies.
Generally chalets (or lodges) can sleep from ten to twenty five guests; they are a great option for large groups of friends to vacation together, all meals are catered for, beds made daily and often private skiing and snowboarding guides are included in a weekly rate.
